A Brief Wolverine History

The University of Michigan Hockey program is one of the most storied and successful programs in college hockey history. The program has a rich tradition that dates back to 1922, and it has produced numerous NHL stars and Olympic medalists.

The Wolverines have won nine national championships, with their most recent title coming in 1998. The team has also won 26 conference championships and has made 38 NCAA tournament appearances.

The Wolverines play their home games at Yost Ice Arena, which is one of the most iconic venues in college hockey. The arena was built in 1923 and has a capacity of 6,637 fans. The arena is known for its raucous atmosphere, as fans over the years have developed chants and chirps for just about every occurrence in the game, making it incredibly difficult to play an away game in the old “barn”.

The Michigan Hockey program is also known for its development of NHL talent. The program has produced more NHL players than any other college hockey program, and its alumni include some of the game's biggest stars. Most recently, Michigan has harbored some of the best young talent threatening to become the next wave of superstars in hockey such as Matt Beniers, The Hughes brothers, Owen Power, and Adam Fantilli. This influx of talent has seen Michigan make it to the Frozen Four each of the past two seasons.

In addition to its success on the ice, the Michigan Hockey program is also committed to making a positive impact in the community. The team participates in a number of community service projects each year, and players are encouraged to be active members of the Ann Arbor community.

Although there are many Division 1 hockey programs in the great state of Michigan, the Wolverines stand out as the most successful and storied club of all time. With a recently signed new Head Coach and another influx of young talent committed to play at Yost, they are poised to raise a national trophy soon and could become a mini dynasty.
