Against All Odds

Against All Odds

There are a million quotes out there about going for it when the odds are stacked against you. “Any given Sunday,” “It always seems impossible until it is done,” and my personal favorite “1 in a million, so youre saying there’s a chance!”. All classic Jim Carey quotes aside, at some point in your life, you will have to persevere an obstacle in life. If one were to ask for an example of extreme perseverance right now, you will catch what has been grabbing headlines for a little over a week right now. Tiger Woods may tee off tomorrow at the Masters.

Through all the trials and tribulations, he has faced in his life, nothing physically will stack up to what he has accomplished in the last 14 months. This includes having vertebrate fused together, countless knee surgeries, and other ailments. The greatest golfer to ever live was laying on an operating table with doctors discussing whether he would be able to keep one of his legs. He is now looking to compete in the most famous golf tournament in the world, one he has conquered 5 times before. Many said his win at this very venue in Augusta, GA was his greatest comeback of all time. It took him a victory to achieve that title. Just teeing off on the notoriously hard 1st hole at Augusta National may top this.

We hope no one reading has gone through something this difficult. But persevering major obstacles are things that everyone goes through. It doesn’t need the notoriety of the biggest stage in a sport to be that unique, it could just be as simple as pushing through a rough patch of time to spend time with your teammates and/or family at a Elite Amateur Sports youth hockey tournament in Michigan. Being there for each other is the best way to get through any tough time. Be kind and courteous to your fellow parents, teammates, or coaches. You never know what they may be going through, and you never know when you may need their help to get through a tough time later down the road. With many players taking the next step in their careers, others may not be able to tackle that opportunity, be graceful in your successes and help those who may not have made it quite yet.

We here at Elite Amateur Sports like to help those in need as well. Each year we put on our Hockey Fights Cancer tournament in the Detroit area to help those who have been diagnosed with cancer and put in the most vulnerable point in their life. Be sure to check out our website for details, because there is no better way to help others than playing a bit of hockey in May.
