Stanley Cup Memories

The Finals are in full swing. Two teams who have played 100 games are now playing up to 7 to see who is named the best team in the world. Is it your team battling to be best, or have they bowed out? Here in Michigan, we haven’t had the hometown Redwings lift Lord Stanley’s Cup in over a decade. A few locals have brought it back, but it has not been awarded to the Motor City since 2009.

The Redwings reign of dominance over the NHL was well noted and had 4 exclamations over the course of 25 years. It is easy for the many Michiganders who have walked the halls of NHL Stadiums, Division 1 Arenas to remember back to the glory days of the Redwings as their introduction to the game. Many highlighted in lengthy series with St. Louis or Colorado. Second only to Minnesota, Michigan has the most players active in the NHL, as well as NCAA, so that are a lot of memories. Younger players must resort to the internet to see greats like current GM Steve Yzerman, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Federov, and many others. Check out our blog next week on our thoughts about Redwings legend Steve Yzerman and his vision to get the ‘Wings back to the promised land.
