Mite Hockey - Real Fun!

We are not here to pick sides on what is the best tactic for mites, whether it is cross ice or full ice. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Here in Michigan, we have swayed much more towards the AAU Full Ice Model, and that is why you see us here at EAS hosting AAU Hockey Tournaments in Michigan. What we would like to impart on our readers, is that no matter which side of the boards you are on, is that there really only needs to be on goal on every team’s mind, and that is fun.

“Cross Ice hockey is not real hockey”. It is one of the main arguments coming from those in support of full ice Mites. There is not Mite hockey game that is really a hockey game. At no point will anyone ever walk into a rink and see two teams of Mites and mistake them for the Redwings and Avalanche, or Michigan and Michigan State duking it out. What you will see is a group of 5-8 year old’s still working on motor functions playing a game out of pure joy, and that is something we hope it stays.

Mite hockey may not even be the most fun for the kids. Parents of kids who were never really exposed to the sport get to learn right along side the athletes about this great game. Those who have hockey backgrounds get to see their child’s first steps, or strides rather, towards falling in love with the game their parents fell in love with as well. There are the rare occurrences where parents don’t agree on hockey, but almost every time, the parent against playing such a “violent” sport always comes around. The best way to get a parent to come around, is enjoying one of our AAU tournaments, so be sure to check out our slate of games on our Facebook, Website or on our calendar of events here on our blog for dates and registration information. We hope to see you with us this upcoming season!
