Hockey Stick Selection

Yes, you did see that correctly. Your son or daughter just picked up the newest $400+ hockey stick. Although we have seen prices on everything go up, hockey sticks have been trending this way for many years. It has been two decades since the now defunct Easton Hockey equipment manufacturer released the Synergy. It was the first all composite, one piece hockey stick on the market, promising revolutionary changes overnight. Easton was so confident in it’s technology, the first major batches of the stick came with a lifetime warrantee. Again, your eyes did not fool you, a lifetime warranty on a hockey stick.

Back then the price tag on this brand new technology sent people into shock…at $150. Mind you, that was almost 300% more expensive than the top of the line wooden or aluminum two piece sticks at the time, but now, that is the price for the bargain bin twigs you see at your local youth ice hockey tournament.

Top of the line sticks are not for everyone. Although now “Elite” is thrown before absolutely everything in sports, realistically only the top echelon of players will really see any benefit from the technologies put into todays sticks. Multiple lies, curves, kick points, grip styles, contours, convexes, the list goes on. For the general masses, a stick with a moderate curve and the correct flex is all that is needed for a player to get the most out of their game. Paying over $400 to see minimal increments of game will surely break that bank at some point, making it harder to stomach the bill for expensive pieces of protective gear that, well, does what is advertised no matter that player using it.

That being said, we would love to see the skills your son or daughter have with their stick of choice at our upcoming Spring Hockey tournaments in Michigan, or after a summer of training over our full selection of 2023-2024 Fall and Winter hockey tournaments.
