History of the Boo

Back in 2008 with the financial crisis and lack of jobs in the Automotive Engineering industry, I decided to try a career in one of my major passions in life – Hockey.  At the time, I was traveling the Midwest officiating games for tournaments for the last 5 years for a local tournament company here in Metro Detroit.  While ref’g a game with many issues and watching the tourney director deal with it rather badly, I knew I could do a better job.  After calling a few cities and Ice rinks, I was really impressed by the city of Sault Ste Marie and always wanted to go there while growing up in Metro Detroit.  Going for it, I launched Great Lakes Hockey LLC with my first tourney – the Boo in the Soo Oct 2008.  Over the next 12 years, I have had the honor of hosting this event for families all over Canada and the Midwest.  Running this event is special knowing it was responsible for changing my career from a 3d AutoCAD automation engineer to working in Hockey!  As you can see from these pics, playing and of course winning this tourney is special as well.
