Getting Saucy

The Saucer Pass. It is a right of passage for a hockey player. Once learned, a pass really isn’t all that cool unless its got some air underneath it. The Saucer Pass has been around for a long time, but it has been the evolution of hockey and the creativity of current players that has really elevated the status of the pass. Players such as Draisaitl, Kane, MacKinnon, and Pastranak now “huck sauce” all over the rink turning the NHL into a trick shot competition. In the last few years, the All Star Weekend has showcased the saucer pass to the extreme, with target practice coming from the stands in St. Louis and the fountain at the Belagio in Las Vegas.

Hop on Youtube and you can see the trend transitioning off the ice as well. Sauce Toss has swept the sport like the rolling skate guards you see at every rink. You can spot a hockey player at any vacation area because they are out on the beach, at the lake, or getting creative in urban environments playing Sauce Toss and working on their passing skills with their friends. There are some pretty crazy trick shots out there.

Being an elite level passer may be your child’s ticket to the show, or TikTok stardom. Players more and more are taking pride in their assists. Next season let us assist you and your team in finding highly competitive and fun environments at any of our Elite Amateur Sports girls and boys Michigan hockey tournaments.
