#Ferda

History of the Boo4.jpg

We’ve all heard the kids say the word “Ferda”, but what does it actually mean? Hockey lingo seems to lead the way in creating crazy, at times nonsensical words that pertain to the game in one way or another. Somehow, everyone’s name in hockey ends in ey/ie or er, like Jonesy, or Kaner. Ferda is a shortened term mean For the Boys, or For the Girls. The For the has been condensed to Ferda, and there you have some hockey slang.

Ferda boils down to comradery. Would you do it “Ferda”? Would you put your team and group of peers before your own needs to get the job done? Comradery is not built overnight, sometimes it takes weeks, months, or even years. When you talk to any former or current player, you will usually get one answer on when the most team bonding is done, and that is on the road.

Traveling for hockey is many players lasting memories. Knee Hockey, linked phone games, every meal together. It creates a cool family dynamic, every one having the last name Hockey.
