Halloween is right around the corner. Social and standard media will be flooded with kids in their adorable costumes emulating their hero’s and dreams. For many kids across the country, those heroes don’t reside in a complex multiverse, but right here on actual earth. Players like Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos, Artemi Panarin, or Auston Matthews will have miniature versions of themselves going door to door within the parades of children across America trick-or-treating.

Trick-or-treating is a tradition that is generations old, just like the passing of the Stanley Cup to the best hockey team in the world. A newer tradition that is being seen is how the players dress when coming to games around Halloween. Franchises that are on the road will typically hold a costume night and allow the players to come in their chosen outfits for the evening. For them, its like being a kid again and being at a youth hockey tournament in Michigan for Halloween. Every year you get the standard Lloyd and Harry in their tuxedos from “Dumb and Dumber”. Many times, there will be a Star Wars theme amongst a few players. Even going so far as to come in as one of their teammate’s favorite foods. Many Instagram posts are also taken from team get together with the significant others that also find some intricate and exciting costumes as well.

The minor leagues of hockey also get into the fun. Teams that are Minor Pro or Major Junior have been getting alternate jerseys to earmark the occasion. Recently, the Orlando Solar Bears dawned and incredible custom Halloween uniform that made their team look like skeletons skating around the ice. Those specialty jerseys are also typically raffled off for a charitable cause, making the uniforms both fashionable, and functional.
